The practice was started in 1975 in Boothbay by Dr. James Wahlstrom. In 1989, we expanded and added a clinic in Wiscasset, Coastal Veterinary Care. Throughout the years, we have grown and expanded but have maintained our close ties to the communities we serve and remain committed to practicing high quality medicine in a relaxed atmosphere.
Both clinics operate on a strictly "walk-in" basis, perhaps the most unique thing about the practice. During regular hours, you are welcome to come in with your pet for routine care or with a medical problem and you will be seen on a first come, first served basis. With a revolving group of 7 veterinarians we regularly have 3 doctors available to see patients at each clinic. This allows us to see emergencies as they arrive and to follow through with complicated cases when needed.
We do require appointments for surgery or procedures that will require anesthesia or a prolonged stay, this allows us to plan ahead and provide optimum care to everyone.
If you need medical care outside of regular office hours, we provide 24 hour emergency veterinary care to established clients. If we see your pet outside of regular hours, there will be an $85 emergency care fee. We belong to the Lincoln County Emergency Group which is composed of Coastal Veterinary Care, Boothbay Animal Hospital, Damariscotta Veterinary Clinic and Medomak Veterinary Services. Our answering service will page the veterinarian on call and you will be directed to whichever clinic is covering emergencies at that time. In some cases, we may suggest that you take your pet directly to one of the full service emergency clinics. These clinics are fully staffed and able to handle any emergency 24 hours per day. You may also call them directly if you feel time is of the essence. The closest emergency facilities are:
Maine Veterinary Referral Center, 1500 Technology Way, Scarborough. 885-1290
Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine, 37 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston 777-1110.
